ASU Gammage — Arizona’s Theater Gem

I’ve lived in Arizona a long time, and one place that’s always meant a lot to me is ASU Gammage. Even before you step inside, it’s something to see. That big round building with the tall arches — you can spot it from a mile away. Frank Lloyd Wright really knew what he was doing. I still find myself looking up at it every time we go, thinking, man, that’s a beautiful piece of work.

Karen and I have been going to shows there for years — sometimes with the kids, sometimes just the two of us. We’ve seen everything from The Lion King to Hamilton and a bunch in between. No matter what’s playing, there’s always that same excitement in the air when the lights start to dim.

What I love about Gammage is how it brings people together. You see college kids, families, older folks — everybody coming out to enjoy live theater. There’s just something about it. It makes Tempe feel like a small town for a couple of hours, everyone sharing the same experience.

And it’s not just about the big touring shows, either. Gammage supports local programs, school shows, and all kinds of community stuff. It’s a place that reminds you art still matters — that stories, music, and a good laugh can bring people closer together.

Every time I walk out of that building, I feel proud to live here. Arizona’s got a lot to offer, but ASU Gammage is right up there near the top for me.
